On November 11, Ukrainian Resource Exchange LLC (URB) held its first timber market auctions involving the conclusion of six-month forward contracts.
The Podilskyi Forest Office Branch of the Forests of Ukraine State Enterprise offered 21,000 m³ of round timber and 37,200 m³ of industrial fuelwood for forward trading, with deliveries by the forestry units of the Chernivtsi region during the first half of 2026. All lots offered were successfully sold. A total of 23 forward contracts were concluded with a total value of UAH 220.9 million, representing an average increase of 67.9% over the starting prices.
For the first time, agroforestry enterprises of the Sumy region initiated auctions involving six-month forward contracts. Six regional enterprises offered 57,800 m³ of round timber and 39,600 m³ of industrial fuelwood for delivery during the first half of 2026. A total of 23 forward contracts were concluded for the entire volume offered, with a total value of UAH 177.9 million. The average increase over the starting prices was 8%.
With the introduction of forward contracts to the commodity exchange market, auction participants gained a financial instrument that makes their commercial activities more predictable and improves the accuracy of financial planning. By concluding a forward contract, both parties fix their obligations regarding the future delivery and payment for the underlying commodity.
